My Daughter’s Classroom

My Daughter’s Classroom at home

My Daughter loves to play school. For Christmas she got a school days kit and tonight had school for all her stuffed animals… I loved the Angry Bird…

I shot this in auto ISO mode in very low light…My Camera set the ISO 6400 and I shot 3 bracketed shots handheld and did the rest in post. Its a bit noisy but I kind of like the extra noise.

Bag of Tulips and More About What We See

Bunch of Tullips

I love it when my wife brings home flowers! Which is probably a reminder that I need to remember to bring them home more often, but that’s a lesson for another day… I liked the way this came out.

Recently I wrote about Photographing Joshua Trees and the challenge of capturing what I see, check it out. Shortly after that post went live I walked into an exam at my real job and was immediately told by my patient to not tell him what I saw?

I have never heard that before and didn’t really know what to say or do? Do I still look? Not knowing what to do I started asking questions. So I asked, what do you want me to do if I find anything? In a nutshell the patient wasn’t prepared today to hear any bad news.

Nobody likes to hear bad news and sometimes there is no way to sugar coat the news.

Do we see disease or health?

Do we see what is? Or what could be?

What we see impacts these discussions.

Just like the Joshua Trees, the Tulips above or my patient… There’s always more to see.

Joshua Trees Learning to See What you See

Joshua Trees are native to our location in the Mojave Desert.

Joshua Tree Top

I’m fascinated by their shape and texture that I often take a few snaps of them whenever I am out exploring the desert. The trouble is I’m never happy with the results of the snaps. I’m unable to capture what I see, when I see them. I’m actually wondering if I see something in them that just isn’t there. I see color, texture and randomness. When I look at my photos I’m almost always urged to remove the color or do something to the photos to express what I see. The day I shot these photos was an overcast day so the colors in general were more muted to my eye. Even though my camera could pick up the rich green colors, they don’t look right to me.

Joshua Trees and the Spring Mountains

I think this is one of the primary challenges with photography. Trying to capture in the camera what the eye sees. The image below is closer to what my brain/eye was trying to capture. Sometimes we don’t see reality at all!

Joshua Tree

Joshua trees are just cactus in the desert, but can be an interesting study in learning to capture what you see. It’s easy to take quick snaps….

It’s harder to capture what you see.

Harder yet to see what you see!

Still learning.

Lego Star Wars Sets

Star Wars Lego!

My son had a fairly lucrative Holiday season in terms of Lego sets! From left to right is: the Lego Star Fighter, Lego Malevolence, and the Lego AT-OT-walker.. Practicing my toy photography and I think I need to pull out the studio lights for help!

Sunset last night was incredible and today I was ready, but the clouds didn’t really cooperate… There were almost too many clouds tonight… but I had some fun anyways.

More Crayons

Another long day indoors… and since I tried boringly with the Almonds yesterday I decided I needed some Color tonight, so I looked around the house for some flowers or something and the only thing I could find was the Box of Crayons again… I don’t mine, they are fun!9:365

I think she did a great job!

Big Box of Crayons

My Daughter got the biggest box of crayons I’ve ever seen… This case has everything! Crayons, Pencils, Markers, Water Colors, Oil Pastels, Glut, Scissors and more! I can’t wait to see what she creates from this set!

Also, I’ve made a few changes to the theme around here that I think highlights the photos a bit more…. Would love to hear any feedback positively or negatively, thanks in advance!

This image is almost straight out of the camera I did bump the contrast a bit with the Tonal Contrast effect in Perfect Photo Effects 8, and adjusted the white balance in Aperture.
