Things Overheard at Disneyland

One of the things I love about Disneyland is the opportunity to people watch. I pretty sure my family provides many opportunities for others to watch and chuckle as well. This trip I actually remembered 3 things I overheard that gave me a chuckle and they may you as well.

1. Right outside Soarin’ over California in California Adventure I overheard a Grandpa and his Grandson heading to the Churro cart. The Grandpa asks,

“Do you want to share one, or do you want one of your own?”

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hear the kids response, but I know what my response would have been.. “I want my own!” I’m pretty sure every other kid would want a whole one as well, at least the kids I know.

2. As we were leaving the Hungry Bear Restaurant a Grandma and her daughter were heading in as we were leaving, to which the Grandma asks,

“Do they have kids meals here? Let me ask.”

It’s Disneyland, they have kids meals. Doesn’t mean the kids will eat it though, I can vouch for this. So maybe this is what she was referring to, do they have kids meals the kids will eat?

3. So I’ve always wondered how people choose their shoes when going to Disneyland. I’m pretty sure I’ll be on my feet all day and usually try to wear a pair of shoes that will allow my feet to survive. So when i see people in sandals, espadrilles, flip flops, hi heels, etc. I have to wonder how they make it. So as we were walking through the line on Space Mountain a guy right behind us tells his friends;

“I’m having flashbacks with these damn sandals.”

Guess those flashbacks weren’t strong enough…

Apple’s Photo Stream Is Cool!

I admit to being skeptical when I first heard about Photo Stream from Apple. Why would I want to see all the photos from all my devices in one place? Our house has 2 iPhones, 2 MacBooks, and an iTouch. Just got back from a trip and have now realized how cool Photo Stream is.

Here’s how I set it up. I use Aperture on my Macbook at home and on the road, so I made this my Photo Stream home base. I then set up my iPhone’s Photo stream to our main iCloud account. I then set up my wife’s iPhone Photo Stream to the same iCloud account.

So here’s how it works. As were out and about snapping photos with our iPhones as soon as those phones hit a wifi area, say in a hotel or Starbucks the Photos will sync to the Photo Stream. So the photos I’ve taken show up on my wife’s Photo Stream on her phone and vice versa. Also, when I finally get around to downloading images from my regular camera into aperture, they will eventually show up into the photo stream, on all configured devices almost magically.

From what I can tell aperture will upload all photos that have been downloaded from a memory card even the bad ones and holds 1000 photos and keeps them for 30 days from the time of uploading, providing plenty of time to save them to folders or the camera roll on an iPhone or iPad. So it’s a good idea to go and edit out the blurry ones, which should be done anyways! Any connected device to the Photo Stream can also save images into device specific galleries before they leave the stream, which makes it easier to manage the photos as well

What I find helpful is that it easily places photos from multiple devices into one place. Anyone else used Photo Stream? Experiences?

Word of caution though when you have the Photo Stream turned on, on the iPhone it will automatically look for new photos when it finds a wifi signal, therefore this can become a batter issue if you have just downloaded 300 photos from your digital camera.

A 484 on the Sandquist Railway

This is a fun clip of the 484 steamer cruising through the forest on the Sandquist Railway!.. It’s exciting to see the scenery start to come together!

Adding a Backdrop

So we are slowly making progress on the scenery. The addition of one of the backdrops as really helped to pull things together. Now the finer details of ground cover can be completed to blend into the backdrop.

The backdrop is 292” long by 40” tall.. I did some creative photoshop splicing to achieve this file. I was then able to upload that file so that my friends at my local Fastsigns could print it out on some fairly heavy stock paper, sorry I don’t have the actual name or brand of the paper. It’s the stuff they use for trade show banners. Its fairly sturdy in that it doesn’t rip or tear easily.

Here is what the actual file looks like before printing:

Backdrop Image

This image will print out in full resolution to 292″ in length and 40″ wide. If you’re looking for a desert backdrop I’ve made this available for purchase as a download. Once downloaded find a local shop to print to your needs.

Below are some more photos of the backdrop.

Gluten Free Red Rice and Black Bean burger patties

Photo

So last week a good friend gave me a sample of her Veggie burger patties that she made with Red Rice. I had never even seen or heard of Red Rice, so went on the hunt for Red Rice
and found some at Whole Foods. I must say that it does have a ground burger resemblance when cooked up and has great flavor. So I decided to add some black beans and chopped walnuts and see what I could
come up with as my own version. So here’s what I did.

2 cups of cooked Red Rice- Mine was Lundberg Wehani Red Rice, I have tested other types of red rice but really like the taste and texture of this brand.
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
1/3 cup finely chopped walnuts
1 can rinsed Organic Black Beans
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh Italian Parsley
1 TBS Cumin adjust to your taste
1/2 tsp Salt to taste
1/2 tsp pepper to taste
1TBS Chipotle Tabasco sauce
2 TBS Egg replacer disolved in water or 1 Large Free Range Egg

Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and take a potato masher and mash it up so that the beans are mostly mashed up this is absolutely necessary if you are choosing the vegan version with the Egg Replacer
as the mashed up beans help hold the patties together. Then in a hot lightly oiled skillet brown each side of the patties. They are sturdy enough for a sandwich and are delicious on their
own.
