After a 13 day evacuation period we were finally able to go back to our cabin in the mountains, residents were able to return 2 days ago and the area opened up to the public today. The fire got to within 50′ of a few homes and there were still hotshot crews patrolling the lines today as there are still hot spots up in the higher elevations. Were hoping for some monsoonal moisture to bring rain in the next few days that to put them out but not cause flooding.

My son got a new Lego set that he was really excited about… Had it all put together in a few hours! It has fire missiles, a jet on top, a medical area, and lots of gadgets to fight the aliens that are ready to attack our planet…Day 198 of 365

No Smoke! On day 11 of the Carpenter Canyon Fire, there is no smoke or fire visible from this location. There was heavy rain with some flash flooding in the burn zone today and we won’t know tomorrow how much of the fire got drenched until tomorrow. There is hope that starting Sunday they’ll allow residents to start returning to their homes…Day 193 of 365

Life goes on… We are grateful that with today’s rain and clouds they’ve been able to move the containment lines to 43% around the Carpenter Canyon fire. If tomorrows forecast holds we should get more rain tomorrow. With that news we are grateful and hope things are under control in the next few days. Full containment won’t occur until it burns out in some areas as it’s not possible to get crews to edges of the fire. So on tonights trip to see the smoke I wanted to see if I could get a break in the clouds as dusk, but I found Elvis instead! Viva Las Vegas!Day 192 of 365
